Chania
The former capital is the perfect stop during your tour of western Crete. Most consider Chania the islands most beautiful city, which is home to open-air restaurants, Venetian architecture excellent shopping. Samaria Gorge
Carved from the Lefka Ori, or White Mountains, Samaria Gorge provides one of the most spectacular natural wonders in Greece. The site offers visitors a beautiful 17-kilometre hike in its entirety, but the piney woods and abandoned villages will more than satisfy casual strollers.
Phaestos
Lose yourself in Phaestos. The ancient Minoan ruins at Phaestos offer visitors an elegant maze of walls, stairwells, and courtyards. Dated from 1600 BC, Phaestos is situated on a hillside overlooking the Messara plain and the Libyan Sea.
Gortys
Perhaps no other city on Crete illustrates the island’s chequered past like Gortys. Spinalonga
You simply must take a boat to this Venetian fortress in the Gulf of Mirabello. Held by Venice until the Treaty of 1715, the site was built in 1579 and stands today as testament to the struggle and regional strife borne by the Cretans throughout history.
Limin Chersonisos
